About the Artist

As the daughter of two professional artists, I have always been intrigued with the creative process. From the innocence of handmade clothespin ornaments to an art teaching degree in special education and on to a seven year career in stained glass... the evolution of creating and designing has always been a natural and yet mysterious part of my life.

My passion for bear making has been the final resting point in this creative search.... every day I experience the pure joy of designing, creating and dressing my bears in unusual hats, trims, jewelry and treasures...this has resulted in giving me a child-like delight and resurgence in innocence like those days of being a five year old with my hands filled with gooey paste and a clothespin stuck to my thumb !

The Mad Hatted Bear

The sparkle in an antique brooch, the elegance in the shape of a velvet hat, the whimsy in the pattern of an old bow tie....these are the elements which spark my imagination in creating "The Mad Hatted Bear". Searching for these accessories is like a treasure hunt ....I have been collecting albeit hoarding unusual trims, trinkets, hats and treasures for 23 years. Some days I have even surprised myself when opening a long forgotten box and discovering to my recent delight......a collection of antique baby socks !

This treasure hunt has taken me to the flea markets in England & Europe in the search of the perfect trinket to complete that special bear for my wonderful customers. The search for that special accessory has become a delightful passion. This passion I feel is displayed in "The Mad Hatted Bear".

I LOVE making these bears .....it fills my need to create in the addition of a tiny jewel to my bears hat just because it is the perfect touch ....it fills my soul with the look of gentleness yet whimsy in my bears eyes........it fills my life with all the wonderful customers who adopt my bears .....just because my bears have a special way of reaching out, touching them with a child-like playfulness and yet tease them with the mysteries of "The Mad Hatted Bear" !
